Cesc Fabregas' season was brought to an early end on Monday evening after the official adjudged the Chelsea midfielder kicked the ball at a West Bromwich Albion player on purpose.
The Spaniard aimed the ball into a group of players after Diego Costa and Jonas Olsson got involved in a war of words, hitting Chris Brunt on the head before being shown
Chelsea were trailing the Baggies 1-0 at the time of Fabregas' dismissal, and the playmaker will now miss the Premier League champions' season closer against Sunderland on Sunday.
OptaJoe would suggest the former Arsenal and Barcelona man isn't a malicious figure, however, with this being only the second red card of his Premier League career
Whether the kick was intended to hit an opponent, only Fabregas will know, but the question remains as to why he would risk such judgement by kicking the ball anywhere near the huddle of players.
That small error has cost Fabregas dearly, as he now misses out on the chance to break Thierry Henry's record for assists in a Premier League season (20), ending his campaign on 18.
