Apart from gaining the fear of God, (taqwa), which we emphasised earlier, the month is loaded with blessings like no other month. It is reported in some narrations that the companions of the prophet (s.a.w.) used to pray for longevity of their lives six months before Ramadan in order to witness Ramadan and to reap the benefits in it. Immediately after the month, they also beseech Allah to accept their ibadaah for six months. This highlights the extremely high value of the rewards and blessings of this month.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: “There has come to you Ramadan, a blessed month which Allah has enjoined you to fast, during which the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the rebellious devils are chained up. In it there is a night which is better than a thousand months, and whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived.” Narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 2106; Ahmad, 8769. classed as saheeh.
Again, at every point of breaking of fast, there is the rare opportunity of redemption and acceptance of prayer. You can be redeemed of all your iniquities, you can be cleansed of your misgivings and sins. This is also contained in the saying of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) Saheeh al-Targheeb, 987.
In Paradise there are rooms that its outside can be seen from the inside and the inside can be seen from the outside. Allah has prepared them for those who feed the poor, those who are gentle in speech, those who fast regularly, and those who pray at night when people are asleep.
Besides, one Hadith says: “Whoever gives food to a fasting person with which to break his fast, he will have the reward equal to his (the fasting person), without it reducing in the slightest from the reward of the fasting person.”
As we are enjoined to always do good, any act of goodness done in the month of Ramadan will be multiplied. It was said in one hadith as equal to10x, 70x, 700x or more.
It is also a month of forgiveness of sins, the prophet harped on it so much that he said “woe unto any one who fails to seek for forgiveness of sins during Ramadan. We were taught Angel Jubril heard him and concord by saying Amin, Amin, Amin.
Not only that, whatever food that we eat for sahoor or Iftar is blessed. It is the month in which the Holy Quran was revealed, which also has one night that is better than a thousand months. It is a month of purity as all act of immorality are buried. It is a month of paying Zakat, caring for others and sharing happiness. By this, the society is better, human relations is improved, there is peace of mind and better ways of living. It is always a time for contemplation and evaluation of our inner-self. It is a month of massive blessings and not a single burden. Ramadan Kereem.
